Gunfire Erupts at Howe Park Sends Four People Injured in the Arden-Arcade Section of Sacramento County

Sacramento County Sheriff's Office investigators are investigating a violent incident that erupted late Saturday at Howe Community Park in the Arden-Arcade area at the moment law enforcement were dissolving an unlawful assembly of hundreds of attendees.

How It Started

Deputies initially got calls about the park on Howe Avenue shortly before 6:30 Saturday evening after being notified of persons possibly in possession of concealed weapons. After that, a second call came in mentioning a possible fight occurring near the park.

Air support scanned the area from the air but was unable to locate the reported altercation. Nevertheless, it was evident that an enormous crowd had packed into the park in an unauthorized manner.

The Shooting Itself

Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies set about removing people from the park by forming a perimeter and issuing commands over loudspeakers ordering the hundreds present to leave immediately. Roughly 15 minutes were provided for individuals to vacate.

As the crowd was being cleared that upwards of 20 gunshots rang out. Gunfire sent hundreds fleeing. Responding personnel at once began identifying shooting victims.

Four Gunshot Victims

When the dust settled, four individuals were located with gunshot injuries. The four individuals — comprising three men and one woman all reportedly in their early to late twenties — were airlifted or driven to nearby hospitals. Doctors and click here nurses indicated that two had critical injury classifications, one had moderate injuries, and one had injuries classified as minor. Thankfully, all four were expected to survive.

Metro Fire Sacramento arrived on scene and provided medical assistance the injured at the scene.

The Investigation

The center of the incident appears to have taken place adjacent to Cottage Way adjacent to the Home Depot store located at the 2200 block of Howe Avenue. CSI personnel discovered more spent casings scattered along Cottage Way. Projectile impacts were observed in the metal fencing adjacent to the nearby Home Depot. This evidence confirmed that one of the gunmen had been firing southward from Cottage Way targeting the Home Depot building and parking lot. The Home Depot was temporarily locked down while the scene was active. CSI units alongside detectives remained on scene late into the evening.

Suspects Detained

Intelligence received through law enforcement radio communications established that a Kia connected to the shooting was intercepted in Solano County California. Four occupants were stopped and detained. Sheriff's units were traveling to Solano County to transport the detainees for processing in Sacramento County. Surveillance footage established that there were two gunmen.
